I was with my partner, hero, lover and Best friend for 40 years, till his passing, from lung and brain cancer . I met David my first year of college in Washington DC.David was in the army working at the pentagon,I met him on the steps of one of the Smithsonian Museums, we had a great time talking, but when I said I had to get back to school he said can I see you again, and I yelled back, next Saturday same time, same place.
We met every Saturday after that, we would take walks, go to lunch and talk, we did this for almost 2 years, But when I didn't show up one saturday and then another, he went to my seminary and found out that I was sent to a Boston hospital, due to illness. The next Friday he got in his car and drove 500 miless to Boston. He finally found me at the Mass. General Eye & Ear Hospital.
My parents were in my hospital room with me. My dad said "son I think your soldier man is walking down the hallway!" I said, dad what are you talking about , he said"the soldier that lights up your face when you talk about him".
It was David I couldn't see him through the bandages, but I knew the scent, he came over to the bed and took me in his arms, and whispered in my ear "I will never let you go". and he didn't for 40yrs.
When you find that person who completes your life, enmbrace them like you are minutes from death.
Now, I plan to live everyday to it's fullest, with my art, volunteer work and large Italian family, and to chat with my friends here on Silver Daddies.
