Like a falling leaf
I had slipped to the ground
Convinced in my belief
That no one heard the sound

That tree was my home
But now it has died
And left me all alone
Feeling so empty inside

The sun used to shine
And bring me warmth each day
My little world was mine
No one could take it away

But now Winter has come
With its cold and chilling frost
Though my life once had some
Now all hope seems lost

As I lie upon the earth
Crushed and torn in defeat
This was the place of my birth
Icy cold and without heat

Bitter winds have blown
Scattering all of my dreams
I've become an unknown
Or that's the way it seems

But up there in the sky
I could still see the Sun
Though I didn't know why
Since I had lost and it had won

And the tree I thought had died
Had merely fallen fast asleep
It was still living inside
For its roots run deep

I used to think Spring would soon come
Giving new life to that tree
And one more day in the Sun
Would be waiting there for me

But now I am at last aware
As I lie upon the cold hard ground
This final fate I now must share
With the others in a rustling mound
Soon to fade away without a sound
And be in Earth's embrace forever bound
For no hope here is to be found
At least for me, this time round
